Get ready for some great summer picnic ideas to entertain your little ones

Picnics that are held in the warm summer months are a fun and delicious alternative to McDonald’s, Wendy’s or Burger King happy meals, any day of the year. But now that school’s out, the kids have lots of time on their hands, and busy moms are starting to run out of clever concepts to entertain their school aged children, why not rely on a traditional summer standard?

Picnics!

I’ve always loved a good picnic – I remember creating a pot luck out of the left overs I found in my parents’ fridge. My sister and I would raid the old Amana, create a tacky yet tasty concoction of whatever appealed to us on that particular day, grab a blanket and go. Granted, we were fortunate to have big yard, so we could picnic by the garden, picnic by the trees, or even picnic under the twinkling stars on a warm evening. And my mother loved the fact that we never had to leave the yard!

This activity created a bond between my sister and me, but it also helped us to become comfortable entertaining in a casual setting. We would often invite a friend to join us, and hence, our little summer picnics became training grounds for more elegant affairs that I would plan as I got older.

This month, I plan to cover some great summer picnic ideas and share with you how the relate to the fundamentals of gracious hospitality and entertaining. I hope that you’ll check back her frequently for all of my ideas!
