Christmas and music are a natural pair. Find out this writer's thoughts about which pairings work best.

Now that Christmas is around the corner, what type of music is best for your social gathering? The best type of holiday music to add to your party is determined by the style of event that you're hosting.

  • If you're having a fun, kitschy party, there's no better Christmas music than the retro hits sung by Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and their contemporaries.
  • If you're hosting a gift wrapping party, try some upbeat seasonal music like Mannheim Steamroller or even Phil Spector's rock and roll Christmas album.
  • If you're having a more sedate holiday affair, try some light classical seasonal music like the Boston Pops.
  • However, if you're hosting a Caroling Party, only your own a capella music will do!
