This Party Planning and Easy Entertaining Tip shares a trick for making your home extraordinary.

Just follow your nose to the party....

Don't forget to use scents to highlight your themed event. You can use flowers, potpourri, scented oils, aromatic candles and even baked goods to evoke different festive thoughts that will put your guests in the right frame of mind.

Try these "scentsible" aromas for your big event:

  • Easter or Spring event: freshly cut tulips in vases throughout the party space

  • Summer party: use lemon oil on aromatic lightbulb rings or on potpourri. Adding fresh cut lemons on the buffet or in the menu will increase the sensation.

  • Autumn event: on top of the stove, simmer a pot of apple cider that's been spiced with cinnamon, allspice and cloves

  • Christmas party: use freshly cut pine boughs tucked into key locations -- tablescape, mantle, buffet, tops of mirror/picture frames -- to spread the holiday aroma. You can add to the ambience by including multiple pine scented candles throughout the party space
