Auction fundraiser events can be a lot of fun. There are still tips to keep in mind when planning these events.

Convincing random strangers to bid on items is not always an easy task for community organizers. Here are tips for hosting an auction fundraiser that can help the event run smoother and meet fundraising goals.

Auction Items in at Different Price Levels

All guests to attend community auctions will likely not have the same income levels. This is why it is important to have a mixture of low, medium and high prices items when hosting an auction fundraiser. Doing so will make it easier for everyone to bid on at least one item while still making sure the fundraising goals are met. Auction all items in rotation instead of announcing pieces with the same price range at once. This can help to keep everyone engaged in the bidding process without feeling left out.

Sell Advance Tickets with Incentives

Auction fundraisers can be difficult to advertise without being affiliated with a large organization or special cause. Community organizers who are hosting an auction on their own can benefit from selling tickets in advance. This will ensure that there will at least be a set number of guests who are guaranteed to attend the fundraising event. Keep ticket prices low so guests can plan to bring additional money for bidding. Incentives for ticket holders such as exclusive door prizes or advance bidding opportunities can also increase sales.

Keep Cash Available for Change

Auction organizers can reduce financial barriers in their fundraising goals by having cash available to provide change for guests attending the event. Keep a few hundred dollars in various bill denominations to ensure that all items can be auctioned off quickly without roadblocks. The pricing of auction items also affects how much money organizers will need. Keeping prices rounded to the nearest dollar will reduce the need to also have a lot of coins on hand. Transactions at the fundraiser can go smoother for a $50 rather than a $49.99 or $49.50 item.

Provide a Selection of Appetizers

Guests attending an auction fundraiser should be treated well starting with a buffet style selection of appetizers. This can help to keep their energy up while bidding on items scheduled to be auctioned off throughout the day. Serving small snacks can also prevent guests from leaving early due to hunger.

The food served at an auction fundraiser should be of higher quality than potato chips and soda but does not have to be as elaborate as lobster dinners. A staff member can also be hire to serve sampler dishes to special guests in attendance.
