Do something different and memorable with these meaningful activities that will surely compliment the traditional high energy baby shower games.

Baby showers are an important time for friends to help mom-to-be to prepare the best she can for her new role. Raising a child can be intimidating, especially if this is her first. traditional baby shower games are high energy and often times require a lot of space.

Below are two suggestions for fun, meaningful and helpful activities, requiring minimal space, that mom-to-be will be able to use for years to come in raising her child.

Time Capsule

This activity requires a bit of pre-party planning. When sending out the shower invitations the shower host mentions that each attendee should bring a memorable piece of news or an event that has occurred over the year. This memory could be in the form of a newspaper or magazine clipping, burned CD with songs, article of clothing, and accessory, or something similar. For example, for 2009, baby's guests might bring something related to US President Obama's inauguration.

Once everyone has arrived, the guests will sit down with mom-to-be and reveal their memorabilia, indicating the importance of each gift. The items will then be placed into a time capsule. (A shoe box decorated with the shower's theme is a nice touch.)

The capsule is then given to the mommy-to-be to share with her baby on the agreed age set out in the party or one deemed appropriate by her and daddy-to-be.

Friendly Advice for Baby

When everyone is seated, each guest is given a piece of paper with a number on it ranging from 5 to 16. If you have more than 11 guests, several guests can be given the same number, and if you have fewer than 11 attendees, several guests can receive 2 numbers.

The number given corresponds with the future age of the baby. Each guest must then write down a piece of age-appropriate advice that the child will receive at the age indicated.

For example, for a boy aged 10 years old, you might write him about bullying, both physically and emotionally. Use his name if you know what it will be:

Dear Sebastian: Happy Birthday! You are now 10 years old! But on this special day I want you to remember how important it is to treat all people with respect. Remember that actions and words can both really hurt those around you. Try hard to treat everyone, boys, girls, young and old, the way you would like to be treated! Love Auntie Sharon

A nice addition to the game would be adding a piece of parenting advice for mom-to-be in dealing with her child at each age.
