Spring Entertaining Events
Simple, Elegant Easter Arrangement
Create an understated yet strikingly gorgeous display that looks fresh, natural, and screams of early Spring!
- In a weathered terracotta vase or urn, arrange bunches of flowering branches and cymbidium orchids.
- Create a monochromatic and refined look, use flowering apple or cherry branches in a pinkish hue to match the orchids.
- For a more colorful look, use hydrangea or forsythia branches.
- Stagger the cymbidium blossoms for a slightly asymmetric look and fan out the branches for some width across the display. Remember that Mother Nature does not grow flowers in perfectly straight lines with absolute symmetry. This display should capture that essence.
Spring Gardening Party Flowerpots
When you host your annual get together to share your divided perennials with your friends and neighbors, make it an event to remember by offering light snacks and beverages. Highlight the party space or the perennial dividing space with several flowerpot gardens that are so simple and basic, that even your kids can create them!
- Line and 18 inch terracotta flowerpot (to prevent the water from leaking) and fill it with soaked floral foam.
- Arrange 9 lipstick pink tulips, 2 – 3 dozen bluish-purple irises and 2 – 3 dozen yellow petite narcissi in a loose, flowing design. Randomly rotate the narcissi for a more natural look.
- Arrange 9 cattails throughout the arrangement to balance the height and width of the arrangement.
- Tuck many strands of bear grass (narrow bladed, ornamental grass) around the perimeter of the arrangement at the lip of the terracotta planter. Place more bear grass throughout the floral display to soften the edges, to create flowing lines, and to fill in any bare spaces.
Ladies Afternoon Tea Party Display
Create a light, elegant centerpiece of blue and white in a low profile shape to highlight your table or your food display.
- Fill a low profile terracotta container with soaked floral foam. Use an 8 inch square container for a stronger look, and whitewash it to tone down the clay color.
- Arrange 5 branches of jasmine and 5 branches of narrow leafed, dark green foliage throughout the display.
- Highlight the arrangement with heads of hyacinth (5 of white and 5 of blue) and 10 veronica stems in a purplish blue shade.
- Finish the display with 3 guelder roses (the heads of the viburnum family’s cranberry bush).
