Fun and fabulous ice cream treats can be served to your thrilled guests with ease!

America remains in love with the fun and fabulous 1950s and in particular the nostalgic lifestyle surrounding the American soda fountain. This neighborhood hangout is where teenagers spent countless hours sipping malted milkshakes, while their younger siblings enjoyed hot fudge sundaes seated next to grandparents sipping coffee and sharing the latest town gossip. Why not create a party – birthday or otherwise – around the theme of an American tradition: A Soda Fountain Party?

Theme Concept:

  • Recreate a 1950s era Soda Fountain experience in the convenience of your own kitchen, complete with funky glassware, great treats and a soda jerk or two! This party is really best completed as a short 45-minute to 60-minute activity

Decorations:

  • 1950s era decorations
  • Themed colors could be teal and black with touches of lipstick pink
  • Oversized vinyl records and posters of old-time Americana could decorate the walls
  • Conversely, contemplate using a dairy theme with black and white cow splotches and kitschy bovine decorations
  • Regardless , the soda fountain prep area must be kept clean of any non-food clutter!

Food & Beverage:

Without a doubt, the food and beverage portion of this party is what sets it apart from others. To create your own soda fountain experience, take a hint from your favorite ice-cream restaurant. Look at their menu, take a gander at their fountain, and identify all the accoutrements of their setup. The serving pieces are easy to duplicate by being a creative shopper or using your local rental house to provide sundae glasses and banana split plates. Offer traditional favorites like Turtle Sundaes, Hot Fudge Sundaes, Tin Roof Sundaes, Straw-Anas, and of course, Banana Splits! If you're really ambitious, add in shakes, floats and sodas to offer your guests, but make sure that you have an extra pair of hands to help with the mixology!

Implementation:

  • Lay out your kitchen table or kitchen counter in an assembly-line format for sundaes.
  • Stack the serving pieces at one end, and have three quality ice-cream scoops soaking in three crocks of warm water. Offer only three flavors of ice cream -- vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.
  • Next in line should be the sauces: fudge, chocolate, strawberry, and caramel.
  • Next in line should be the fruit: bananas ready to be sliced and crushed pineapple.
  • Following the fruit should be several canisters of whipped cream, a bowl of chopped nuts and a jar of maraschino cherries.
  • As orders come in, you can easily and effectively move across the counter and create a wonderful ice-cream delicacy in just seconds.
