These funky wine glass decorations are a quick way to add an interesting look to the dinner table without breaking the bank.
There are many reasons to host a dinner party – and oftentimes resources such as time and funds are limited. Planning in a hurry doesn’t mean that the table needs to look uninteresting and mundane – by creating elements such as these beaded fur wine glass rings, one can immediately transform the look of the table décor.
Requirements
Long nose pliers
Sharp scissors
A length of fine-feather boa – depending on how many holders you would like to make
Any fine-gauge beading wire in any color
Ready-made beading bracelets (with the removable bead to allow for the threading of beads onto the bracelet wire)
Ear-ring wires – any size, but preferably longer ones, as you may want to trim them to create variations of beads for each glass
Beads in the desired color of the table décor
Creating Wine Glass Rings
Cut any excess string off the end of the length of feather boa and hold that cut edge firmly against one of the ends of the beading bracelet. Bear in mind that the bracelet will still need be opened and closed around the stem of the wine glass, so don’t start the feathering too close to the end. If you found that you have done so, the nature of the wire binding will allow for some adjustment.
Taking a length of beading wire (approximately 10 – 15 cm), wind it tightly around the end of feather boa that you have placed at the end of the bracelet. The winding should be as tight as possible; although you will find that the feather boa will still slide once you have done so. This is fine, as it will allow for space for the beads in the final step; as well as allow for the bracelet to be closed as mentioned above.
Once you have wound the wire around the feathers and the bracelet, take the loose end of the feather boa and wind it around the rest of the bracelet in order to cover the silver wire. Four or five loops should be sufficient, and they can be spaced out at a later stage during the table placement.
Once you have reached the end of the looping, cut the feather boa from the rest of the length, and - using the same technique - wind another 10-15 cm of beading wire around this loose end and the beading bracelet; binding the two together as tightly as possible. At this stage, the feathers should cover all the exposed areas of the bracelet with the exception of the two ends (with the bead and the curved section that slots over the bead to secure it).
Take an earring wire and thread any pattern of beads onto it. If you would like to have a shorter length of beads, cut the wire – however, the longer the wire, the more of the beading will stick out of the feathers. Leave enough space at the end to allow the beads to slide back and forth, and to make a loop in the wire to thread it onto the bracelet.
Take your pliers and firmly gripping the end of the earring wire, twist it around the end of the pliers to make a loop – much like when making earrings. Once you have done this for all the beaded strands you would like for your wine glass decorations, remove the silver bead on the beading bracelets and thread them onto the bracelet – replacing the bead to secure them.
Place each one around the stem of a wine glass and close the bracelet – spreading the feather boa out to cover the wire properly.
