Once you've read my first article, Kids Pirate Birthday Party, , and my second article, Kids Pirate Party Crafts, , read below for additional party planning ideas.

Special Twist

The party's host will be Captain Jack (a crusty pirate) and Ruby (the pirate princess). These two adults (or mature teens) will lead the guests through the party's activities. If needed, the hosts can be two men (Captain Jack and his 1st Mate) or two women (Ruby and her 1st Mate).

Suggested Party Timeline

  • 1:00 pm Guests arrive and are conscripted by Captain Jack. Ruby assists with adorning the guests. Newly conscripted pirates can gather in the party space, and make spyglass telescopes.
  • 1:15 pm Captain Jack gathers the guests who have finished their spyglasses, and tells tales of the pirating way . (Check your local library for kid-appropriate books). He continues to tell tales until all are done with the craft.
  • 1:30 pm Games #1 & #2: Pirate Booty led by Ruby, followed by Raise the Anchor led by Captain Jack.
  • 1:45 pm Craft #1 - tattoos or knots
  • 2:00 pm Grub; meal served at party table, followed by cake. This gives the guests downtime and a chance to share their tattoos/bracelets with one another.
  • 2:20 pm Game #3; Pinata - use the table decoration for traditional breaking of the pinata. Make sure to fill the pinata with small, wrapped candies, earlier in the day. Use a small tree branch that resembles dead wood, or a larger piece of driftwood to strike the pinata. Guests should have their goody bags accessible to gather the treats.
  • 2:35 pm Game #4 - Hidden Treasure; may use compasses if age-appropriate. Otherwise use landmarks on the maps.
  • 2:50 pm Captain Jack teaches the guests to sing a sea shanty and/or tells additional tales of the sea, as guests wait to be picked up.
  • Yo ho, yo ho, you've just given your guests a taste of a pirate's life!
