Installing a home hot tub in your outdoor deck or garden may seem like the ultimate in luxury, but is it practical... or affordable? You just might be surprised!
Slipping into your own warm, bubbling home hot tub or Jacuzzi after a long or stressful day may seem like a dreamy luxury – and it is! Long considered the territory of luxury hotels and resorts, the good news is that hot tub, spa and Jacuzzi tubs are becoming more and more affordable. Available in many styles, sizes and highly energy efficient, they are also easy to install for personal use in residential homes and apartments everywhere. Isn't it time to treat yourself?
Hydrotherapy – the use of water to increase health and wellness through various methods – has long been considered a way to relieve pain and discomfort for many conditions, from the use of the baths in ancient Roman to the popular mineral springs of Saratoga. Today, we can enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy in our own homes consistently and reap the rewards in the form of good health, a sense of wellbeing and stress-free living.
Some of the benefits of having a hot tub right in your home, on your deck or in your garden:
- Stress relief is probably one of the number-one benefits of a hot tub. The soothing warmth and pulsing jets of water relax your muscles and impart a soothing environment that melts your cares away.
- Muscle soreness, aches and pains from arthritis and other joint pain can be relieved as you soak.
- Spent too much time playing soccer with the kids? Back pain, muscle soreness and joint pain from sports activities can be helped by the buoyant effects and warmth of your home hot tub.
- Entertainment: if you love to give parties and want your guests to relax and have a good time, a hot tub creates an ambiance in your home and a fun atmosphere that everyone will enjoy.
Whatever your reason for installing your own hot tub, there are several things to consider before purchasing a spa:
- Size: There are hot tubs that fit four adults comfortably, and those that seat several more. If you’re not sure which size is best for you, talk to the retailer or the manufacturer... it’s probably better to go larger than to be disappointed with a tub that's too small.
- Extras: There are spas that come with some amazing amenitis. These can include pop-up TV screens, DVD players and CD players! You may or may not want to consider some of these, depending upon where your hot tub will be located and how much you want to spend.
- Cost: Hot tubs and spas come in a variety of applications, sizes, and quality. Prices begin at about $1,000 for a portable, inflatable hot tub that seats four adults, and go up from there.
- Safety: Hot tubs come equipped with safety controls that include an automatic shut-off if the water drops below a certain level and a temperature sensor control that maintains a maximum safe temperature. You can even get a panel locking feature that prohibits anyone else from using it or changing the settings.
Location is one of the biggest considerations. Should you install an indoor or outdoor hot tub? It really is a wonderful experience to sit outside in a steaming hot tub while the snow falls all around you…the Scandanavians swear by its invigorating effects! No matter where you choose to install your hot tub, find a reputable dealer who will stand behind your purchase and the installation, and you will enjoy this luxury for many years.
