Hosting a ladies night in can be a welcome alternative for those staying home due to rising gas prices. There are many inexpensive ways to make an evening memorable.

Ladies' night out is a welcome break from the stresses women face as working mothers. With rising fuel costs many women are looking for an alternative that's easier on their fuel budget and pocketbooks. A ladies' night in can provide a welcome option. Groups will find a variety of activities to choose from that are fun and affordable.

Themes For Ladies Night

Hosting a theme party helps to make Ladies' Night In more than friends hanging out. It lends cohesion to the event and gives everyone a chance to participate. Hostesses should involve the group in the planning so that everyone can contribute. Some theme to try:

  • Ice cream party - Purchase an inexpensive electric ice cream maker and have everyone bring recipe ingredients and sundae toppings. Participants could bring root beer, bananas, nut sprinkles and chocolate syrup. Hold the party outside by the pool, and give everyone a fan as a party favor.
  • Slumber party - Host a classic slumber party. Have everyone dress in pajamas and bring the music they listened to in school, dance, watch movies, eat pizza, and try new hair and makeup styles
  • Romance movie party - Rent or have everyone bring some of their favorite romances. Casablanca, The Princess Bride and 50 First Dates make great viewing. Provide popcorn, soft drinks and candy. Play movie bingo with phrases from the movie. Don't forget the tissues.
  • Spa party - Have everyone bring their favorite beauty products and foot baths. Use an inexpensive back massager on each other, or consider hiring a masseuse at a group rate.
  • Board Games - Play bBnko and have everyone bring a white elephant gift as a prize. Settle who really is the smartest with Trivial Pursuit. Dust off the Babysitters Club game and Girl Talk. Try something new like Apples to Apples, Scattergories or Cranium.

Bring the Activity to the Group

Instead of going out, consider bring the activity to your group. This works especially well for groups that live close together.

  • Home sales - Home sales have advanced in the last few years. Companies like Slumber Parties and Passion Parties feature parties providing lingerie and adult favors. Bring in Mary Kay or Avon for free makeovers. Call Pampered chef for free cooking lessons. Invite Partylite to spa night.
  • Cater it - Instead of going to the restaurant, decide on the menu and have it brought to you.
  • Schedule a class - Ask a local craft instructor whether they have group rates to teach your group, then learn cake decorating and bring the cake home to the kids. Bring in an investment representative to discuss investing or a dance instructor for hula lessons in the back yard. Classes can be as diverse as instructors. Be sure to ask what materials participants will need and the space requirements.
  • Hire a professional - See if your favorite manicurist, stylist, or masseuse can give you a group rate. Local tarot readers may be willing to read for the group.

With the many options available, women don't need to leave home to have an enjoyable Ladies' Night In.
