Host a video game party of epic proportions in your own man cave. Rock Band, Halo, and videos like The Fast and The Furious shine in this environment.

While Bruce Wayne has his Bat Cave and Tony Stark (Marvel Comic's Iron Man) has his design studio where they can hang out and play with their electronic toys, any guy can create his own sanctuary in which to revel in his machismo. The new term recognized for this specific type of male sanctuary is "man cave."

The website mancavesite.org defines a man cave as a dedicated area of a house, such as a basement, workshop or garage, where a man can be alone or socialize with his friends. So with this modern interpretation, parties no longer have to be the bailiwick of just females. Man caves have created an entirely new group of potential hosts, and what better way to share your "manctuary" with your friends than a blow out video game extravaganza party?!

Set Up Your Man Cave

A great place to make your video game party fly is in a large open space with bare walls. A cleaned, unfinished portion of your basement or garage is perfect for a big impact. Paint the focal wall white, filling in any marks or holes beforehand. Purchase an inexpensive projection device or rent one from your local rental center. This device can be hooked up to your DVD player and your video game system and it will enable you to project a huge image onto your focal wall. And what better place to show the impact of size than in a man cave?

To complete the sanctuary, attach some portable speakers to the game console or DVD player output panel, and flood the cave with sound. A rolling cart of shelves, which can be found in any hardware store or wholesale club, is perfect for holding the electronics and allowing for flexibility of placement.

Comfortable seating is essential in your man cave. However, if your budget does not allow for overstuffed recliners or if your manctuary is for temporary use only, get inexpensive yet durable resin Adirondack chairs. These can be purchased at discount stores like Walmart or hardware chains like Menards, Sam’s and Lowes, and they will do double duty as lightweight yet comfortable seating for the man cave and for outdoor entertaining during the rest of the year.

Food & Beverage

Your man cave will scream for man-sized refreshments that are a far cry from cheese straws, watercress sandwiches and petit fours! Consider simplicity, quantity and indigestion issues when outfitting your man cave with food. Pizza, nachos, burgers, tacos, burritos, and ribs all make terrific macho foods.

Don’t be concerned about fancy plates and serving pieces - cover a table with a plastic tablecloth, place a Crave Case of White Castle sliders, a couple of packages of Oreos and a case of Mountain Dew on it, and you will have created man cave F&B nirvana! Add in a big garbage can to collect wrappers and trash, and your video game party clean up will be reduced to a minimum.
