A "Watch Party" is cool idea for those not attending a televised event. Eat, drink and play games while you watch it at home with friends!

Where will you be, the night the Democratic National Committee makes history at the Convention? Here are some creative suggestions for throwing a fun, stylish party to commemorate this event.

Party Dress

Encourage guests to dress in all blue to represent the democratic colors. Purple is another acceptable color - to be fair and represent bipartisan harmony. Obama t-shirts, buttons and other paraphernalia could be suggested also.

Serve The Supporters

Patriotic Foods make sense, but lets stay away from mess-magnets - Blueberry pie is out. The key to great party food is to have one or two filler foods, a great dessert and a couple snacks everyone loves.

Main - Subs (Halves) With Flag Toothpicks. Try:

  • Hot Chicken Breast and Mozzarella
  • Cold Turkey/Ham

Snacks - Fun and colorful! Try :

  • Crab balls or Meatballs with blue, red or purple toothpicks
  • Blue corn tortilla chips and salsa
  • Strawberry and cheese platter with blueberry yogurt

Dessert - Don't be afraid to have more color! Try:

  • Blue and Red jell-o cubes served in shot glasses – topped with whipped cream (Alcohol in the jell-o for “jell-o shots” is optional!)

Drinks Encourage Bipartisanism - serve purple drinks! (Alcoholic)

Favors With Flavor

Though you’ll have your Obama buttons and t-shirts, why not go all out and try something new? Print short messages on candy and order online! Go DNC!

While You Wait

Have time to kill with your guests before the highlight of the night? Play a patriotic game!

  • Democratic Twister: Get some blue markers and Write MCCAIN in the dots on a Twister game so that at least 10 of them are "republican dots". These dots are "off limits" and cannot be used. This makes the game far more exciting. (prep effort: Moderate)
  • Pin the Tail on the....: Grab a Pin the Tail on the Donkey game (available at any party store). Place a McCain Sticker (or politician of your choice) on the donkey... somewhere interesting. (prep effort: Mild)
  • Guess That Politician! Divide your room in Men against Women. Have a representative from each team take 3 turns drawing McCain, or Bush or Clinton, whoever! Whichever team guesses the most correctly for each ‘artist’ wins! (prep effort: Mild)

Patriotic Toast

Hooray, The Convention is over, your party is a success. Champagne Toasts? Yes please. Kicker for creative dems? Buy some cheap clear flag stickers or Obama stickers and stick them on your champagne toast glasses! Voila! Take lots of pictures!

Bonus Host Tips:

  • Your whole party is centered around a televised event. Make sure your TV/Screening and cable setup is fully functional well before your event.
  • It's not attractive to be the guy/girl who's party inspired siblings to stab one another to death over politics. Don’t invite people who fight!
  • Read this too late? How about using these ideas for an upcoming Debate Party?

Support your candidate in style! Good Luck!

Cool! Never heard of a watch party. Sounds similar to a "fight" party. I may try one of these with my friends from work!
