Get creative and have fun decorating for the next party. Use centerpieces the guests can enjoy now and eat later.

Centerpieces add the finishing touch on the dinner or party table. Traditional floral bouquets and candles are always nice, but double-duty edible centerpieces will delight friends and family even more. These can be store bought or hand crafted. It doesn’t matter as long as they’re interesting and delicious.

Fruit Centerpieces

There are many ways to decorate with fruit. The traditional way of setting out a bowl or basket filled with oranges, apples and bananas will do the job. To add more creativity, tuck some flowers and nuts in among the fruit.

For something a little different and whimsical, use pineapples, strawberries, kiwis and grapes.

  1. Cut florist foam and insert it in the bottom of a deep bowl or vase.
  2. Cut the pineapple in 1/2 to 3/4 inch slices.
  3. Cut the shapes into the pineapple with a floral shape cookie cutter.
  4. Skewer a strawberry or grape with a toothpick and insert it into the center of the pineapple flower.
  5. Insert a long, wooden skewer into the edge of the pineapple flowers and arrange them in the florist foam.
  6. Cover the base of the stems with cut kiwi or sliced grapes.

Cookie Centerpieces

A heaping platter of decorated cookies will make all the guests smile with anticipation. Or pile them up in an attractive tin or other decorative container. Tie a ribbon around it and add a little extra decoration around the base if there’s room.

To take the cookie centerpieces to another level, create a scene based on the theme of the dinner, season or event.

  1. Using 6 square or rectangular cookies, ice the edges to glue them together, forming a box.
  2. After the icing is dry enough for the cookie box to be secure, decorate it with colorful icing.
  3. Place this in the center of a platter surrounded by other cookies.

Colorful Candy Centerpieces

A glass container filled with colorful candies will make an attractive centerpiece. This can be a traditional candy jar, an apothecary jar or even a large glass mug.

Gumdrop trees are always attractive and bring back memories of childhood to people of all ages.

  1. Start out with a Styrofoam cone.
  2. Using toothpicks, spear green gumdrops and insert them in the cone until it is covered.
  3. Place the gumdrop tree in the center of a platter and scatter more green gumdrops around the base.
  4. Sprinkle red hot candy around the gumdrops on the platter to look like flowers in the field.

Chocolate Centerpieces

  • Dip any fruit in chocolate and pile it high on a plate for a beautiful and yummy centerpiece.
  • After dipping strawberries in chocolate, skewer them and make a bouquet in a glass lined with florist foam.
  • Fill wide brimmed jars with bridge mix and place in the center of the table. Place a scoop next to it so guests can enjoy the candy.
  • Fill a three-tiered cupcake server with chocolate iced cupcakes. For a more festive look, add sprinkles.
