From the first date to being a newlywed and celebrating many wedding anniversaries, couples can enhance their time together in a plethora of ways.

Date night (or day) has arrived, and there’s nothing to do that hasn’t already been done. Wrong. Get creative and have some fun. There’s an abundance of ideas for couples who are sporty, quirky, quiet or spontaneous. Be inspired and change things up for a fun date that will be talked about for years. Creative dates are great for impressing that special someone or rekindling the old spark that has faded.

Sporty and Active Dates

Sports lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy more physical activities that are competitive or physically challenging.

  • Visit batting cages.
  • Rent mountain bikes and spend the day on the trails.
  • Hike the trails, through the mountains or favorite forest.
  • Go to the beach for some snorkeling.
  • Dust off those fishing rods and go fishing.

Inexpensive (Cheap) Dates

Money shouldn’t be an object for the couple who wants to spend time enjoying each other’s company. There are plenty of activities that are free or cost very little.

  • Visit the local museum.
  • Spend time volunteering for a favorite charity.
  • Spend the day shopping at garage sales.
  • Picnic at a favorite park.
  • Go for a long walk to the ice cream shop, then walk back to burn the calories.

Dates with Others

Get together with others to increase the fun exponentially.

  • Invite friends over for a potluck and play party or board games.
  • Take a class together.
  • Visit the families.

Play Tourist Dates

Most cities and states have tourist attractions, so spend some time getting to know what’s available nearby.

  • Spend the day and evening at the closest theme park.
  • Take a day, dinner or weekend cruise.
  • Go to a nearby small town and learn all about its history.

ABC Series of Dates

Take turns choosing what to do on date night. The first person will select an activity that begins with the letter A. For example, she may choose to visit an art exhibit, or he might want to go to an animal shelter. The letter B can be a tour of a brewery, a ball game or a balloon ride. This can be quite challenging with letters Q or X, but it’s also the time to get creative. This is ideal for a couple in a long-term relationship or a married couple.

Photo Session Date

Couples who like to hold onto special moments may enjoy spending an evening looking for photo opportunities. Start out at home with the first snapshots, then as the evening progresses, from dinner and activity, all the way back home. The create a slide show with computer software or the online program from Animoto.
