Stumped on a costume for this year? These ideas may be just what you're looking for or get the creative juices flowing.
Halloween is just around the corner and people are starting to wonder about their costume for this year. Should it be funny, classic or scary? It must be creative and many are easy and cheap to create.
There are always those classic Halloween costumes. According to Halloween myths and customs expert Lesley Pratt Bannatyne people dressing in costumes can do no wrong as classic monsters like witches and vampires.
These are staples on Halloween and almost every party has at least a few classic costumes. These costumes are easy to put together and cheap if the local thrift store is on the shopping list. Example: Pirate Costume; a skirt is needed so look for any skirt that is striped and can be cut in a jagged pattern at the bottom. A white button down shirt can be tucked in or also cut with a jagged pattern. Necessities for this costume include a bandanna for the head, a shawl to tie around the waist and a gold hoop for the ear. A fake shoulder parrot isn't necessary but always welcome.
These costumes can range from a red wig for Lucille Ball to Britney Spears or Harry Potter. The Britney costume could be Britney now or in her heyday. Also, two friends could do “Britney: Then and Now” as a duo.
Don't neglect the celebrities in their 15 minutes of fame. Think of a famous character off of YouTube like the guy who wanted people to “Leave Britney Alone” or even Miss South Carolina. If going as Miss South Carolina, start sentences with, “I personally believe,” and use the phrase “such as” a lot.
Groups could be Hugh Hefner and his three girlfriends, Holly, Bridget and Kendra. For the Holly costume, dress very classic but provocative. A long, tight skirt, heels and a low cut sweater with blond pin curls. For Bridget, dress in pink and provocative but fun. For Kendra, dress in sports attire but provocative. She’s a huge fan of the San Diego Chargers so buy a Chargers shirt and cut it very low. Of course Hef would need a smoking jacket, gray hair and a cigar.
Couples could be Sonny and Cher or Elvis and Priscilla. And don’t forget the celebrity classic, Marilyn Monroe.
There are always those few people at Halloween parties that make other guests stop and think or just laugh out loud at the costume. These always seem to be the most talked about costumes.
One costume is a “gold digger” like in Kanye West’s popular song. Wear gold make-up on the eyelids, use gold glitter lipstick, fake gold eyelashes, and carry around a gold covered shovel. The shovel can be a child’s plastic shovel covered in gold tissue paper.
A quick, easy and funny way to make a statement is to carry around a plain covered book with a picture of a face taped to it. When people ask what the costume is the person can say “Facebook”, the popular networking website.
Fans of the show Family Guy can buy a banana costume and two maracas in a nod to the episode with the jingle “Peanut Butter Jelly Time.”
For couples who don’t want to go as a famous couple can go as a pregnant 1950’s style woman and her significant other can go as a 1950’s style milk man. The guy can dress in a white shirt and white pants and carry around an empty milk bottle.
