Cool Adult Birthday Party Games

Why should kids have all of the fun? These engaging adult birthday party games will bring out the silly and the competitive sides of "kids" of all ages!

All in a Name

Here's a choice of adult party games that requires absolutely no set up, making it perfect for an impromptu crowd pleaser! To play, separate guests into two teams; they should be physically separated on different sides of the room. Flip a coin to see which team goes first.

The team that wins the coin flip has 30 seconds to choose a word that they will challenge the other team with. The other team then has a designated period of time to come up with a well-known song title or lyric with that word in it. It might be helpful to have internet access handy to verify the existence of some of these songs, as a good-natured debate is sure to kick off at some point! The winner is the team that comes up with the most answers for the other team's challenge words.

House of Cards

Technology seems to have passed this exciting activity by, but you can easily add it to your arsenal of adult birthday party games! Whether it takes guests back to their childhoods or introduces a whole new "sport" entirely, this old favorite is sure to be a hit!

To play, divide guests into pairs or small groups and provide each team with a new deck of cards and a spot on the floor. (A table will also work, but if it is jarred the game will be over in a hurry!) State a time limit and one of the following categories:

  • House of cards
  • Birthday cake
  • Tallest structure
  • Longest chain

At the end of the time limit, the most successful team wins. Let everyone vote on the winner or select a few judges to help to make the decision. Don't be surprised to hear a few calls for a rematch!

Egg Toss

As the host, you can have a lot of fun with this wickedly dramatic choice of adult birthday party games! The secret is to not reveal that the eggs which guests will use in this game are, in fact, hardboiled!

Before the party, hard boil and refrigerate enough eggs so that you have one for every two party guests. Make sure they don't crack or you'll give away your secret!

When you're ready to play, pair guests up so they face one another in a line standing shoulder to shoulder. Give one member of the team an egg, and explain that he or she will toss it to their partner. Once all of the teams have completed the first toss, both partners take one step back and toss the egg again. Continue the process with teams moving in sync with one another. When a team drops their egg, they are out. The last team standing is the winner.

If shoulder to shoulder indoor space is a concern, then play the game in several heats with the winning teams from each heat facing off in a final challenge to determine the overall winner.

If you are able to play outdoors, use water balloons as a refreshing alternative.

Another alternative to this game is to give each pair an unrolled streamer. As they toss the streamer back and forth, it will begin to unravel. Once the streamer unrolls completely, that particular team is out of the game. Make it a rule that teams cannot re-wrap their streamers as they play and the game becomes more challenging – and a lot more fun!

When you want a change of pace, these refreshing adult birthday party games should be at the top of your list!

Go to www.treasurehuntcluesbook.com and try a treasure hunt! Nancy Kruse puts out a really great book called "Treasure Hunt-A Book of Clues for Parties". It helped me get my own creative juices flowing to come up with some of my own clues. And my party guests loved the idea.
