Do you remember being a pre-teen and heading to the corner drugstore’s penny candy aisle? Do you recall the thrill of collecting empty soda pop bottles along the walk, knowing that you could transfer the returned bottle money into payment for your candy? Well, in addition to bringing back a flood of memories from days gone by, the candy from your childhood can make a fabulous and kitschy party treat.

Whether you use the classic candies in a goody bag or on the dessert table, this slice of Americana is sure to delight your guests. While you may be able to shop for bags of retro candy at your local dollar store or discount store, you can always find your favorite treats online. Following are some ways to incorporate classic and nostalgic candies into your next function.

Theme Parties by Decades

Incorporate the nostalgic candies into your themed event. Whether you are hosting a '50s Soda Fountain event, a 60s Woodstock music fest, or a '70s Disco Dance party, you can find a great selection of retro candies to fit your theme perfectly. Plus, once you package the candy in an era-appropriate wrapping, you will have the perfect kitschy party favor for your guests to enjoy.

1950s Candy Party Favors

Fill a teal plastic tumbler with a selection of the candies listed below. Wrap the entire tumbler in clear cellophane and secure the top with a length of pink chiffon and a couple of lengths of black polka dot grosgrain for a kitschy favor that screams of poodle skirts and bobby sox!

Fill the bags with the candies listed below, to within a couple of inches of the top. Tie the bags with macramé hemp cording and knot a couple of psychedelic beads onto the two ends.
