Most young girls love to play dress up, lip synch along with their favorite stars and experiment with different make up looks. So, what better opportunity to do so than during a Beauty Pageant Birthday Party? The set up is simple, the concept plays to so many “girly” favorites, and the entire event can be staged in your own home. Follow the guidelines outlined below and make the dreams come true for so many young girls with the Beauty Pageant Birthday Party.
Concept
You will be recreating a little girl’s beauty pageant, but on a slightly smaller scale.
Invitations
Create a faux pageant announcement, and mail it out to the guests. You may wish to give your pageant a clever name such as “Precious Princesses,” “Darling Divas,” “Darling Dolls” or something similar, but make sure to include the birthday girl as the event sponsor. Include rules of the pageant with the following verbiage:
- “Competitions will include: talent, evening wear, group dance, and poise. Participants should bring the following materials to the pageant: a winning smile, a burst of enthusiasm, and an attitude of fun!”
When your guests call to RSVP, make sure to advise the girls to wear tank tops and tight fitting shorts (similar to bike shorts or compression shorts). These clothes can serve as undergarments so the girls can change from one costume to the next without feeling inhibited. You may also suggest that the girls wear their hair in an easily maintained style, such as a ponytail or braids, that will still look tidy even after multiple costume changes.
Party Set Up
- This party is best held in a large room such as a basement, a cleaned out garage, or even out of doors. Create a stage area. Ideally this area is slightly raised and can easily be created by using two by fours and plywood to create box platforms. An alternative for the non-DIYer is to rent a small section of staging from your local rental center and use this as the entrants’ stage.
- You may wish to spiff up the stage area by placing some floral arrangements or potted plants along the perimeter. Don’t forget to create a large, glitzy sign advertising the pageant, that will be placed behind or above the stage area. - Locate a small table for the “judges” to sit at while they’re evaluating the contestants, and use folding chairs to create auditorium seating for the girls to cheer on their competitors.
