Planning a 50th wedding anniversary party can be fun, and sometimes hectic. Use these ideas to make your party planning smooth and easy.

Celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary is quite special these days. How many people do you know who actually make it to their golden anniversary? Many times families will come together to throw a party for the special couple. If you want to give a special 50th wedding celebration to your parents, grandparents, or some other special couple, then here are some suggestions.

Decorations for a 50th Wedding Anniversary

There are many great decorations for a 50th anniversary. Remember that this is the "golden" anniversary. Gold represents wealth and optimism. Give the special couple a golden wedding party using plenty of gold decorations on the tables and in the party room. If you want an elegant affair, consider renting white china with golden rims and champagne glasses adorned with gold. Gold balloons, flowers in gold vases, and even gold candles will look wonderful for a 50th anniversary party.

Food Ideas for This Special Occasion

The food you serve will largely depend on the couple. If they are more casual, then you may want to spend the day doing something they love, such as a big family picnic on the lake or a day out on a fishing barge. Even a backyard barbeque will suit many couples. It gives a chance for everyone to see the couple in a relaxed and fun environment.

If you want something grander, then consider renting a large banquet hall, empty theater, or using a large home and giving a catered, sit down dinner. The couple will enjoy the thought, and it will be a time they always remember. Always remember to serve the couple's favorite foods no matter what type of environment you choose.

Activities for the Big Day

There are plenty of things that you can do that will have special meaning to the couple. Work with family members (immediate and extended) to find pictures of the couple through the years. Frame the pictures and set them out for decorations. You might also consider running a video slide of special moments in the couple's life with the pictures you collect.

You can also cover a wall with a large piece of paper and have everyone write messages and well wishes on it. Consider creating a video of family and friends talking about favorite memories with the couple, and present the video to them at the end of the party. Another great idea is to have everyone bring a letter and a picture to the party and create a scrapbook of memories through the years.

Alternative Celebration Ideas

If you think that there are other ways that the special couple will want to celebrate, then you don’t have to give a large party. Perhaps the couple has always dreamed of taking a big vacation. Instead of spending the money on the party, ask family members to chip in to pay for a dream vacation to Hawaii or other locale. You can also send the couple off on a weekend retreat to a bed and breakfast, or if they are interested in renewing their vows, you can host a party for that.

There are so many great ideas for celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. Think about what the couple would love and then begin your plans.

Tip: If you are planning with other family members, consider giving each family a role to take charge of. This could help alleviate any disagreements that could occur with the planning process. It's hard to get everyone to agree on everything, and having specific roles can prove helpful.
